Scuderia Corsa to Start Petit Le Mans from Pole Position
-Matteo Cressoni Qualifies in First Position
- Team Ready to Close Four IMSA Championships in Five Years
BRASELTON, GA. (October , 2017) - Putting a stamp on what stands to be a championship weekend, Scuderia Corsa driver Matteo Cressoni qualified the No. 63 Ferrari 488 GT3 on pole position for tomorrow's season-ending Petit Le Mans. While the team needs only to start the ten-hour race to clinch the IMSA Team and Drivers' Championship, the top grid position should suit the team well for their fight to win the North American Endurance Cup and Manufacturer's Championship for Ferrari.
Taking part in a very tightly contested session, Cressoni's ninth lap would narrowly defeat second position by six hundredths of a second, securing a historic qualifying session in which Ferrari machines took pole position in both the GTD and GTLM classes.
Leading the IMSA Driver and Team Championship by 26 points, Scuderia Corsa needs only to take the green flag, however a one-point lead in the North American Endurance Cup will require a battle for the win with the goal to bring home the two championships. Meanwhile a fourth-place or better will guarantee the Manufacturer's Title for Ferrari on the 70th Anniversary.
For Matteo Cressoni, a complete team effort is to credit for the result.
"For me, the pole position is unexpected, but this result is huge, thanks to the team and my teammates," stated Cressoni. "For sure this is the best way to start the last race of the year. The pole position is not as important for a 10-hour race, but it's always better to start from the front than last. Today was fantastic."
Race action takes place tomorrow, October 7. Television coverage begins on FOX Sports 1 from 10:30AM ET through 11:30AM, then 11:30AM - 2:30PM on FOX Sports 2, and finally 5PM - 9:30PM ET. The race will also be streamed live in the U.S. in its entirety on the FOX Sports GO app with FOX authentication, and also will be broadcast live from flag-to-flag on IMSA Radio via IMSA.com, RadioLeMans.com and SiriusXM Radio.
